ElectroDecker

Templar had installed and tested several, off the shelf (and very expensive), marine drive systems. The performance and reliability were not adequate for the vessel. EAS Power was contracted to help solve this problem. After exploring available options the decision was made to build a custom solution. The Axial Flux motor from Slovenia was chosen. The major advantage of using the Axial Flux motor is that it is extremely powerful for its size and weight. Emrax motors are typically used in small aircraft and are designed to directly drive a propeller. They have integrated thrust bearings allowing a propeller shaft to be bolted directly to the motor. This simple layout means less moving parts and no transmission or reduction to service or break. The system was completed and tested by EAS Power and then installed in the Templar cruiser. The system is amazingly efficient, powerful and smooth with the matched high thrust propeller.

ElectroDecker

In December 2019, we completed the electric conversion of a 1977 Leyland double-decker bus. Originally built in England over 40 years ago, this bus has been given a new life with a clean electric drive system. EAS Power completed the design work as well as the installation and integration of all components.

This project was the first of its kind; a diesel double-decker converted to electric drive. The blueprint for this conversion did not exist, so EAS developed it. The conversion was entirely custom and involved a high degree of creative integration and fabrication.

Mini Coach

Electric Mini Coach, a 20-passenger Navistar bus converted to electric. This bus was designed to be a technology demonstrator and a working prototype for future commercial re-powers.

The Mini Coach has 4 battery packs mounted to either side of the bus and down the center. Each pack houses Electrovaya lithium-ion ceramic cells in 144 individual cassettes. Mounts were custom fabricated to secure the motor and inverter to the bottom of the bus while the cooling system and auxiliary components are installed under the hood. The coach retains the original AC, steering and braking system which are now powered by an auxiliary electric motor and TM4 inverter. Mini Coach accelerates powerfully and provides passengers with a quiet and comfortable ride. UPDATE: October 2023, this bus finally received commercial vehicle certification to carry passengers. This is likely the very first converted (diesel to 100%battery electric) bus in Canada to be registered for commercial use.

Mazda Miata

This 1991 Mx5 Miata was EAS Power’s first in-house conversion. It is still on the road today and has received many new parts and modifications over the years.

Recently, the battery pack was updated from thundersky LiFePo4 batteries to used Nissan leaf batteries. Acceleration is improved and overall weight is less.

April 2024, Miata is driven daily and proven reliable. Range is only about 100KM with the Leaf batteries. Plan to upgrade to tesla batteries for 200+ km

EAS Power installed an electric drive system in this 30’ Catalina sailboat. It features a 2:1 reduction unit powered by a 10KW drive system with a Sevcon controller and Motenergy AC brushless motor. The LiFePo4 batteries are charged through a 500W/48V solar charging system. As a backup, there is a 1500W Elcon charger for shore power charging.
